Virtual Advising Center (VAC)/Ask a Question
Contact Seventh College Academic Advisors via “Ask A Question” in the Virtual Advising Center to receive assistance with the following common advising issues:
- Course selection and scheduling
- Understanding degree requirements and academic policies
- Transferring courses
- Degree audit reviews and updates
- Declaring/changing major
You will be notified via UC San Diego email when your questions have been answered. If you prefer to receive text messages, click on “Preferences” to select this option.
Remote Drop-In Advising - Closed During Spring Break
Meet a Seventh College Academic Advisor and ask any academic questions you may have during our weekly drop-in hours.
Please note that Remote Drop-In Advising will be closed for Spring Break and will re-open Monday, March 31.
- Mondays - 10:30 to 12:00
- Tuesdays - 1:30 to 3:00
- Wednesdays - 1:30 to 3:00
- Thursdays - 10:30 to 12:00
- Fridays - 10:30 to 12:00
Go to Virtual Advising Center at vac.ucsd.edu, click on Meet with Advisor, select Seventh College, and Sign-In for Remote Drop-In.

Scheduled Appointments
Pre-scheduled 15-minute sessions are available online via Zoom or in-person for academic matters that may require more in-depth advising:
- Academic planning
- Exploring majors, double majors, and minors
- Petitions for exceptions to requirements/policies
- Academic performance concerns
- Withdrawal
You can schedule an appointment by contacting us via “Ask A Question” in the Virtual Advising Center.
Quarter by Quarter Planning
To develop a long-term quarter by quarter academic plan with a Seventh College Academic Advisor, follow the instructions below after successful completion of at least one quarter.
- Reference plans.ucsd.edu and your degree audit (MyTritonLink > Degree Audit)
- Use the Academic Planning Worksheet to create a personalized quarter by quarter plan.
- Review your plan with your department/program advisor.
- To finalize your plan, use the Ask a Question feature on the Virtual Advising Center (vac.ucsd.edu) to request a quarter by quarter planning appointment with Seventh College Academic Advising.
Please note: transfer students may request a long-term planning appointment during their first quarter to ensure timely degree completion within two years.
Academic Forms and Petitions
Send your completed form or petition (and supporting documentation if applicable) to seventhadvising@ucsd.edu.
If you are petitioning an Alternatives requirement, be sure to include a course description on your Undergraduate Student Petition and attach a syllabus. Petitions to satisfy other degree requirements must be submitted to the relevant academic department or program.
