Earthquake and Fire Plan

In the event of an earthquake:
  • Remain calm
  • If you are indoors
    • Drop, cover, and hold on
    • Get under sturdy furniture
    • Stay away from windows
  • When shaking has stopped, walk to a staircase and exit the building

Be prepared for aftershocks. These tremors are usually weaker than the initial earthquake, but may still be strong enough to cause damage. You should remain vigilant for up to 48 hours after the initial event. 

In the event of a fire alarm:
  • Leave the building immediately
  • Lock your door behind you
  • Proceed to the nearest staircase and walk to the ground floor
  • Move at least 25 feet from the building
  • Do not return to the building until the alarm has been turned off and fire officials have given the okay

Fire extinguishers are located in apartment hallways or in the exterior of apartment balconies. You should familiarize yourself with the locations of fire extinguishers in the event of an emergency. 

 

Keys and Lock Out Services

Keys
  • All residents are issued a key to their individual bedroom
  • Your student ID (with pin code) will open the e-locks to your main entry door(s)
  • You are only allowed to check out your own bedroom key
  • Never share your key/student ID and pin
  • Always carry your key and ID with you
  • Always lock your doors

Lock Out Policy
  • The first three lock outs are considered courtesy services
  • Courtesy keys are checked out from the Seventh College Residence Life Office (Seventh West, Building 2 - Second Floor)
  • Please return courtesy keys and/or temporary key cards within 15 minutes after a lockout or you may be billed for a key replacement
  • It is a violation of the Student Code of Conduct to duplicate University keys and violators will be subject to disciplinary action


Lock Out Courtesy Services

Monday - Friday: 8:00 am to 9:00 pm

  • Call Seventh College Residence Life to request a courtesy key/key card
  • Residence Life staff will provide further instructions for key/key card check out
Monday - Friday: After 9:00 pm
  • If you are locked out, please contact 858-534-4357 (HELP)
Saturday - Sunday
  • Call the Resident Assistant on duty to receive further instructions
Lost Key
  • If a key is lost or misplaced, the lock will be changed and the key(s) will be replaced
  • There is a $10 replacement fee for a lost or misplaced bedroom key
  • For broken/bent keys, there is no replacement cost as long as you are able to provide the malfunctioning key

Tips for Key Success

Do not prop your apartment front door open using the door deadbolt. E-locks are easily damaged this way and costly to replace. If your e-lock is damaged by negligence and abuse, you and your apartment mates will be billed for the replacement costs.

If you are locked out over a holiday or break, you may be directed to the UC San Diego Police Department. You could be charged up to $10 for this service, even if it is your first lockout. Lockouts can generally be handled within a few minutes but you may be asked to wait up to an hour or longer.

You must use your full name and address, including your box number. Misaddressed mail or the use of nicknames and aliases will cause delays or returns.

Mailboxes are for personal mail only. Bulk rate mail will not be delivered.

Mail Delivery and Packages

Use your mailing address for all deliveries. Mail Services reserves the right to refuse packages if more than 5 packages are received in the same day from a single vendor or if more than 10 packages are received in the same day from a single common carrier.

  • Seventh College Parcel Center (Seventh West, Building 2 - Second Floor) is open Monday - Friday from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm
  • Amazon Lockers are located in Seventh West, Building 2 - First Floor

If you have concerns after business hours, the on duty Resident Assistant (RA) can assist you. Professional staff members are also available when facilities are open.

Residential Security Officers 858-534-HELP (4357)

Residential Security Officers (RSOs) patrol the residential neighborhoods each night and are in regular contact with UC San Diego's Police Department.

Community Service Officers (CSOs) provide security escort services every night. You may contact a CSO for an escort by calling 858-534-WALK (9255).
