Seventh College Orientation Employment Opportunities

Seventh College recruits current students to serve in various positions to create a meaningful orientation experience for first-year and transfer students and their families. Often serving as an incoming student's first point of contact, our Orientation Leaders, Senior Orientation Leaders, Orientation Interns, and Orientation Assistants lay the foundation for student success and welcome new students and their families into the Seventh College community while gaining valuable leadership skills.

ORIENTATION INTERN - OI (Duration: Winter-Fall)

The Seventh College Orientation Intern works closely with our professional staff throughout the year on orientation logistics (correspondences, training, program structure, etc.) and plays a major role in our communication with students and families about the Seventh College Orientation Program. Applicants for this position should be creative and have strong administrative and organizational skills.

SENIOR ORIENTATION LEADER - SOL (Duration: Winter-Fall)

Seventh College Senior Orientation Leaders (SOLs) play an integral leadership role in the Seventh College Orientation program. As former Orientation Leaders (OLs), SOLs have a wealth of knowledge to help new and returning OLs successfully serve incoming Seventh College students. SOLs assist with various aspects of OL training and are the first point of contact for OLs and a liaison between OLs and Seventh College professional staff during Orientation.

ORIENTATION LEADER - OL (Duration: Spring-Fall)

Seventh College Orientation Leaders (OLs) help to create a great first impression of Seventh College for our new students and their families. Seventh College Orientation Leaders serve as role models for our incoming first-year and transfer students while introducing them to campus and helping them transition into the academic year eager to engage in and contribute to the Seventh College and UC San Diego communities.

Mandatory Dates:

  • Spring Training: Spring Quarter, Wednesday’s 3:00-4:50 PM
  • Seventh College Orientation Leader Retreat: Saturday, April 20
  • All-Colleges Orientation Day: Saturday, May 18
  • Orientation Part I: Enrollment & Academic Planning Webinars: August 5-9 (virtual)
  • Fall Training: September 14-17
  • Orientation Par II & Welcome Week: September 18-27

All dates listed above are TENTATIVE and subject to change.

Orientation Leaders will:

Orientation Leader Training

  • Actively participate in all mandatory trainings
  • Learn how to clearly explain the Seventh College theme to new students and their families
  • Learn how to facilitate meaningful connections with and between students
  • Become acquainted with College and University staff, facilities, resources, and opportunities
  • Form positive working relationships with all members of the Orientation Team

Leadership

  • Lead small group discussions, direct campus tours, facilitate group activities, and effectively manage group dynamics and conflicts

Peer Advising

  • Provide information regarding Seventh College degree requirements, including the Synthesis Program

Role Modeling

  • Display sensitivity to different cultures and an awareness of multiculturalism, encourage commitment to academic success, and exemplify Seventh College spirit and pride

Programming

  • Provide administrative and logistic support such as organizing and stuffing swag bags, as well as assist with set-up and break-down during in-person orientation
  • Support the execution and facilitation of select Welcome Week events, including but not limited to UnOlympics

Professionalism

  • Demonstrate appropriate relationships with students, families, peers, and staff
  • Give new students a positive first impression of Seventh College 

Communication

  • Communicate effectively and timely with the Senior New Student Programs Specialist, Senior Orientation Team, and fellow Orientation Leaders

ORIENTATION ASSISTANT - OA (Duration: Spring-Fall)

Seventh College Orientation Assistants (OAs) are an essential part of the Seventh College Orientation Team, supporting the Senior New Student Programs Specialist and Orientation Interns in preparing orientation materials and day-of execution.
